Choosing Between Front or Rear-Wheel Drive

When our sales personnel at Apple Ford Lincoln of York in York, PA inquire about a customer's wish list for purchasing either a new or pre-certified vehicle, we ask if they are looking for front-wheel or rear-wheel drive. The answer to that question will depend upon your driving style and the conditions you typical encounter when driving.

A rear-wheel drive feels easier to handle and better balanced because the weight of the car's drivetrain is evenly spread from bumper to bumper. Rear-wheel drive features a simple yet rugged design that can handle a certain amount of abuse, such as driving over a curb, without any expensive damage done. But it doesn't handle slick roads well.

A front-wheel vehicle has fewer parts, creating a lighter weight vehicle that is more economical to operate. Front-wheel drive vehicles are also easier to operate when roads are covered in snow or rain, especially when outfitted with quality radial tires.
